Panthers Lose Swing Player
by Chris Dokish
Pittsburgh’s Class of 2005 has shrunk by one player as Trevor
Ferguson, a 6’5” shooting guard/small forward from Oldsmar Christian
Academy in Oldsmar, Florida, has decided not to enroll at the
university. Ferguson was considered to be a borderline high major
prospect. The other four members of the class: Sam Young, Levance
Fields, Doyle Hudson, and Tyrell Biggs, are enrolled and began
class on Monday. East Carolina transfer Mike Cook, a 6’4” guard/forward,
is also taking classes. Cook will sit out the upcoming season
and be eligible in the fall of 2006.
The Panthers now have two more scholarships to give for the
Class of 2006 after already receiving a verbal commitment from
fast-rising senior Gilbert Brown, a 6’6” swingman from South Kent
Prep in South Kent, Connecticut.
One of the remaining spots available will be reserved for a
big man, with the two main targets being 6’9” New Yorker Mike
Davis, a former Panther verbal commitment who will attend Notre
Dame Prep in Massachusetts this season, and fellow New York native
Taj Gibson, a 6’9” shot blocker attending Stone Ridge Prep in
California. The last remaining scholarship is expected to go the
best available player, regardless of position. |
