Penn State staff has extensive college and NFL experience; two BCS national titles in past 10 years

Penn State head football coach Bill O’Brien today announced six members of his first coaching staff, bringing together a unit with extensive collegiate and National Football League experience.

In its first game in Lincoln, Neb. since the 1995 NIT and first since the Huskers joined the Big Ten conference, Penn State got a career-high 30 points from Tim Frazier but fell, 70-58, to Nebraska.

The Huskers shot 55 percent for the game to hold a double-digit lead for much of the game over a Penn State team that hit just 33 percent and had only Frazier reach double-digits in scoring.

Penn State has selected Bill O’Brien, the New England Patriots offensive coordinator, as its 15th head football coach in its storied 125-year history.

O’Brien’s appointment was announced Friday evening by Penn State president Rodney Erickson and Dave Joyner, Acting Director of Athletics.

Billy Oliver scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers and Penn State stunned Purdue 65-45, holding the Boilermakers to an ice cold 31.9 percent shooting. Matt Glover collected 11 rebounds for the Nittany Lions.

Junior guard Tim Frazier led Penn State with 15 points and eight assists as the Nittany Lions routed Mount St. Mary’s 72-43 at the Bryce Jordan Center Sunday evening.

The win improved Penn State to 7-5 while Mt. St. Mary’s lost their eighth straight and fell to 1-9.
