Despite a masterful six innings of shutout baseball for starter Chris Archer, the Pirates weren't able to keep an early four-run lead, surrendering the tying run in the ninth and the game-winning run in the 11th, as St. Louis spoiled the opening day party for the Pirates 6-5 at PNC Park Monday afternoon.

ST. LOUIS (AP) Michael Wacha lost a no-hit bid in the ninth inning when pinch-hitter Colin Moran led off with a single, leaving to a huge ovation and pitching the St. Louis Cardinals past the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-0 Sunday.

This was the second time Wacha had a no-hit try broken up in the ninth.

Jameson Taillon got a much needed quality start Sunday, but the Pirates’ bullpen cost him the win, and ultimately, the game, losing 6-4 to drop the series to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Leading 4-3 in the eighth, reliever Michael Feliz got himself into trouble immediately with a bloop single and two walks to open the inning.
