It’s a family affair this Friday night at Fox Chapel when the Foxes take on the Butler Golden Tornado. Coaches Eric Ravotti and Clyde Conti share more than just a 1-6 record; they share bloodlines.

“I’m proud of those guys,” Conti said of Eric and his younger brother Chad, who also works on the Fox Chapel coaching staff.

It’s understandable how Monessen wide receiver Julius Dawkins could haul in two touchdowns and a two-point conversion during the 1977 Big 10 title game and not stand out.

For one, Thomas Jefferson’s Jaguar Stadium was packed with 10,000 fans despite a 7,000-person capacity. Local outlets reported that every parking spot within three miles of the stadium was filled.

The Baldwin Highlanders (2-4) look to end their two-game losing streak, and earn their first home win of the season, in Week 7 against the Fox Chapel Foxes (1-5) following a 42-21 loss at the Wolvarena last week against the Woodland Hills Wolverines.

While the Wolverines doubled up on the Highlanders, Baldwin head coach Pete Wagner still took positives from the contest.

Elizabeth Forward and Ringgold are both headed toward the playoffs. Both also have a chance at making noise with a deep postseason run. Before either team can look ahead though, they will focus on their matchup this Friday night with third place on the line.

“There is a lot at stake in terms of where the chips may fall for the third spot in the playoffs,” Ringgold head coach Matt Humbert said. “This is one of the bigger games of the year for us.

With the AAA playoff picture clearing, Friday’s tilt between Franklin Regional and Knoch looms large. The Panthers are tied for the best record in the conference but face perhaps their toughest remaining challenge this weekend when the Knights visit.

Panthers coach Greg Botta knows the squad that he is up against is better than their 3-2 record.

Woodland Hills started their season in unexpected fashion, with back-to-back losses that left the team stunned at 0-2. But the Wolverines are back over .500 with a 3-2 record and looking to extend their winning streak to four games against Baldwin (2-3, 2-3) in Week 6.

Woodland Hills opened with a 16-10 upset loss to Upper St. Clair at the Wolvarena, and lost again the following week on the road to McKeesport, 33-20, in the Tigers’ Homecoming Game.

The Monessen Greyhounds (3-1) enter the US Steel Game of the Week against Bishop-Canevin coming off arguably the most shocking victory the WPIAL’s recent memory.

Monessen dominated every aspect of its Week 4 game at Clairton when the Greyhounds notched a 42-24 victory over the Bears.

Josh Bell had not hit a walk-off home run since he was a member of the Altoona Curve in 2015. He changed that Friday with a soaring shot for the left field loonies.
