The Charleroi Cougars are looking for their first win under new head coach Donnie Millitzer, who comes to the Cougars with high expectations for a team that finished 2-7 in 2013.

Millitzer, who coached a Gateway team that finished 8-3 and earned a spot in the WPIAL quarterfinals last season, is hoping for a similar record with his new team.

McKeesport rode junior running back Khaleke "Hit Man" Hudson to a romp over visiting Connellsville, as the 6-foot-0, 210-pounder rumbled for 340 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 36-7 rout.

Hudson, the Tigers leading returning rusher, scored on a 44-yard run to give his squad an early 7-0 lead.

Quarterback Amos Luptak ran 7 yards for a TD with a second left and Quaker Valley beat Keystone Oaks 25-19 in the CoGo's Feature Matchup Friday night.

Luptak, filling in for injured star Dane Jackson, capped an excellent night with the last second TD.

After a perfect regular season record, a trip to the WPIAL Quad-A Quarterfinals and an overall mark of 10-1, the McKeesport Tigers will be looking to open their 2014 season at home with a win against fellow Foothills Conference foe Connellsville.

McKeesport comes into the year looking to replace 22 seniors from last season, including quarterback David Queen, who ran for 14 touchdowns and was second on the team in rushing with 698 yards, and

Greg Perry is quite familiar with Quaker Valley. He shared conferences and coached against them in his 20 years at Seton-La Salle. This time though, Perry will coach against Quaker Valley while roaming the sidelines for a different school in his opening game.

After careful thought, Perry chose to take the head football coach job at his alma mater, Keystone Oaks, when Matt Taylor resigned following a 4-14 record in his two years there.

It’s an odd thought for Sterling Jenkins. It’s still a year away, but after he finishes his senior year at Baldwin High School, he’ll be playing college football at Penn State.

It was quite a season for high school basketball players in western Pennsylvania, as several local athletes captured the Pennsylvania State Player of the Year honors across all four classifications.

2014 was the Year of the Ladies, in particular. The WPIAL girls made a clean sweep of player of the year honors, capturing the title all the way from Single-A to Quad-A.

Robert Morris men's basketball Andy Toole announced the program's 2014-15 recruiting class Tuesday, which includes four freshmen, two junior college transfers and one transfer.
