"Eye of the Tiger" blares on the loudspeakers as the Duquesne Dukes, tied for first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference heading into a February 13 showdown with Xavier, sprint on to the court. The raucous CONSOL Energy Center crowd of 10,509, largest for a non-Pitt opponent at home since 1973, is audible from Duquesne's campus a few blocks away.

Duquesne lost for the fifth time in their last six games after a 62-51 loss Saturday night in St. Louis. Damian Saunders scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Dukes, who slipped to 9-5 in the Atlantic 10 after opening the conference season 8-0.

Duquesne's grip on fourth-place in the Atlantic 10 slipped to one-game over Rhode Island after the Dukes lost to the Rams 77-76 at the A.J. Palumbo Center Wednesday night. Sean Johnson scored 18 points in 24 minutes for DU.

With 3:15 left in the game, guard Eric Evans connected on 1-of-2 free throws, giving Duquesne a 76-71 advantage.

Tu Holloway had 20 points and Dante Jackson tied a career-high with 19 as Xavier beat Duquesne 71-63 on Sunday in a game with first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference on the line. B.J. Monteiro had 17 points for the Dukes, who have lost two consecutive games after a school-record 8-0 start in conference play.
