Virginia Tech defeats Penn State

Malcolm Delaney scored 18 points to lead Virginia Tech to a 79-69 win over Penn State in Blacksburg on Sunday afternoon. Talor Battle led all scorers with 26 points.

Penn State fell for the third time this season, dropping a road contest at Virginia Tech 79-69. Talor Battle led all scorers with 26 points, but Virginia Tech took an 11-point lead into the half and the Lions were unable to come back.

OFFENSE

Talor Battle has been sxceptional for Penn State all season so far, and led the way again today with 26 points and 5 rebounds. The only other player in double figures was David Jackson with 12 points, and also had 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a blocked shot. As a team Penn State only shot 42.1% from the field and only made 7-of-22 from beyond the arc. The Nittany Lions also only got 14 points from their bench -- 9 from forward Billy Oliver.

DEFENSE

The Penn State defense had no answer for forwards Jeff Allen and forward Terrell Bell of Virginia Tech who both had double-doubles. Allen scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Bell had 13 points and 10 boards. Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney led the team with 18 points. Virginia Tech shot 54.5% from the field and also 46.7% from 3-point land.
