By Tony DeFazio | Wed, 05/13/2015 - 11:43

The Unsung Hero award recognizes local high school coaches and student-athletes who have dedicated themselves to sports and academics, but traditionally have not received the deserved attention.
The selection of recipients is based on sportsmanship, scholastics, dedication to the sport and team members, success on the field, relationship with officials, school district personnel, the community, and current and former team members.
MALIN ZAHN, HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS UNSUNG HERO
Malin, a foreign exchange student from Berlin, Germany, joined the Woodland Hills high swim team this past winter.
A swimmer since she was four years old, Malin came in quiet, humble and ready to work.
Malin only lost three races going into the WPIALs and qualified for the WPIALs in the 200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Free, 100 Back and 100 Breast. Malin placed 10th in the 100 Fly, 12th in the 100 Free and just missed qualifying for states by .3 seconds in the 100 Free.
Her work in the classroom has been even more impressive, as Malin has achieved a grade point average of over 4.0 during her time at Woodland Hills.
She also played soccer in the fall and was a member of the track and field team this spring.
The daughter of Marlo Zahn and Henry Dittman, Malin was hosted by Helen Semethy here in the Woodland Hills school district. When Malin returns to Germany after this semester, she will finish high school and head off to university.
Ms. Zahn was honored last week at the Woodland Hills High School athletic banquet, where she recieved her award. CoGo's also donated $250.00 to the the Woodland Hills athletic department in honor of her achievements.
