Pens win fifth straight 2-1 over Ottawa

Marc-Andre Fleury made 43 saves, Alex Goligoski scored the winning goal and the Penguins beat the Ottawa Senators 2-1 for their fifth consecutive win Friday. Evgeni Malkin also scored with Sidney Crosby assisting, extending Crosby's points streak to 11 games.

Marc-Andre Fleury has played like a goalie on a mission since regaining the starting job. Friday, he stopped 43 shots, many of the fancy variety, and the Penguins power play provided both goals in a 2-1 win over Ottawa in a rare afternoon game at the CEC. Sidney Crosby extended his point streak to 11 games, matching a career-high. Evgeni Malkin scored his eighth of the year while Alex Goligoski added his fifth, which was the game winner. Tyler Kennedy added two assists.

GAME FLOW

The Senators, who outshot the Pens 21-12 in the opening period, got on the board first with a Jesse Winchester goal in the first period, out shooting the Pens 21-14 in the opening period. The Pens scored the only goal of the second with Malkin's eighth of the year, on the power play. In the third, Ottawa out shot the Pens 12-6, but Goligoski's fifth goal of the year was the only scoring in the third.

Special teams: The Penguins scored on two of their four power play chances, accounting for both goals. The penalty killing continued its dominance by killing off all four of Ottawa's power plays. The penalty kill is second in the league at 89.8%.

Fleury is now 7-0-1 in his last eight starts. Fresh off of his first shutout of the year in Buffalo, Fleury stopped 43 of 44 shots. His best save was at point blank range on Ottawa forward Chris Kelly. For the Senators, Pascal Leclaire matched Fleury almost shot for shot, but the Pens power play did him in. He wound up with 38 saves on 40 shots.

UP NEXT

The Pens play Saturday afternoon at the CEC against another Canadian team as the Calgary Flames make their first trip to Pittsburgh in two years. Game time is at 1pm.
