The University of Pittsburgh’s hot start in Pennsylvania will continue tomorrow when 6’5” 300-pound lineman LUCAS NIX of Thomas Jefferson HS in Jefferson Hills will verbally commit to the Panthers, according to his head coach Bill Cherpak.
“He will do it tomorrow at their passing camp,” says Cherpak. “There won’t be a press conference or anything like that. It’s not like it’s a secret that this was going to happen.”
Cherpak, a former offensive guard at Pitt, is referring to the long-standing belief that his star lineman would join his older brother Nate to play for the Panthers. Nate Nix is a redshirt freshman linebacker this season.
Cherpak believes the younger Nix will be first tried at offensive tackle for the Panthers, with the ability to move to defensive tackle if necessary. Nix is the prototypical left tackle with long arms, great size, strength and aggressiveness, but he also excels on the defensive side of the ball.
Nix is considered one of the five best prospects in the state and joins running back CHRIS BURNS of New Wilmington, linebacker/safety MANNY WILLIAMS of Clairton, cornerback ANTWUAN REED of Johnstown Area, and cornerback/safety CHRIS HAYDEN-MARTIN of Greensburg Central Catholic in the class.
Nix was also offered by Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Virginia, among many others.
