The first round of the U.S. Open finally completed at Oakmont on Friday, after suspension of play on Thursday due to some wicked weather.

They still need some more time to finish the second round -- as play was suspended -- and will resume Saturday morning at 7 a.m with about half the field still waiting to get their second rounds st

The rains came throughout the day, causing the delays and ultimately postponing play.

Despite the hard and torrential rain at times, the course itself appeared to hold up well.

Oakmont golf course opened in 1904. It was designed by industrialist Henry Fownes, who found some pasture land outside Pittsburgh. It was the only golf course Fownes designed.

He laid out the holes to fit the contour of the land which is why it seems like each hole fits perfectly on the overall course. Here are some tidbits and some thoughts by others on Oakmont.

The practice rounds continued on Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club under another picture perfect day. Among the golfers preparing for this week's U.S. Open was Jason Day, ranked as the top golfer in the world and one of the favorites to be in contention for the championship on Sunday.

Underneath perfectly sunny skies, the U.S. Open arrived at Oakmont on Monday for a record ninth time.

The practice rounds continue through Wednesday with the tournament starting Thursday. Barring a playoff, the champion will be crowned on Sunday.

Win in Harrisburg clinches postseason berth

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds hung on to defeat the Harrisburg City Islanders 2-1 to earn a spot in the USL playoffs, and capture the Keystone Derby Cup at Skyline Sports Complex on Saturday.
