Sports can be an outlet used to forget about an otherwise troublesome life, whether those troubles lie at school, home or both. Sports are all some kids have.

Stan Wawrinka upset number one seed Novak Djokivic in the men’s singles final in four sets to claim his first career U.S. Open championship Sunday evening at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Wawrinka fell behind his opponent early, losing the first set 6-7 in a tiebreaker, yet stormed back to take the next three, 6-4, 7-5 and 6-3.

Angelique Kerber won her second major tournament of 2016 and in the process solidified her status as the top ranked player in the World Tennis Association Rankings with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 three set victory over tenth seeded Karolina Pliskova.

The 28 year-old German will become the oldest player in the history of the WTA rankings to become No. 1 for the first time.  Kerber is also the first German to win the U.S.
