The defenseman, who in 83 games with the Penguins, tallied up eight goals and 17 assists, while averaging 16:44 of time on ice, was dealt back to the Dallas Stars Monday for a fourth-round pick, marking the exact same move made by the two teams two years ago.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan did not like his team's effort in a loss to San Jose earlier this week. A parade to the penalty box in the first period did not lift his mood. A dominating second period and a big goal from Phil Kessel had Sullivan feeling a lot better. Kessel scored on a power play at 4:09 of overtime, Matt Murray stopped 30 shots and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Friday night.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim breathed a sigh of relief. Five days after his Orange's biggest win of the season, there was no letdown. Tyus Battle scored 22 points, Boeheim's son Buddy had a season-high 13 points, and Syracuse beat Pittsburgh 74-63 on Saturday, the Orange's zone defense thwarting the youthful Panthers from exerting their strong point, converting tough drives to the basket.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Tomas Hertl needed just three games to get his first NHL hat trick. It was more than a five-year wait for the second one, which came while he’s playing perhaps the best hockey of his career. Hertl knocked down Evgeni Malkin with his backside to score his first goal, got the second off a rebound and capped a big night with an empty-net goal that gave him 100 for his career and sealed the seventh straight win for the San Jose Sharks, 5-2 over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

Trey McGowens and Xavier Johnson combined for 48 points, while the Panthers defense held the Seminoles to just 23.5% shooting the second half, propelling Pitt to a stunning 75-62 win over No. 11 Florida State at Petersen Events Center Monday night.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jonathan Quick got another memento to add to the plastic tub in his attic filled with pucks commemorating important achievements. Quick stopped 38 shots to get his 301st win, leading the Kings to a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday night, snapping the Penguins' six-game road winning streak.

RALEIGH, N.C. — No. 15 North Carolina State lost both a starting big man and its point guard. Good thing for the Wolfpack their depth is the envy of most teams. DJ Funderburk scored 12 of his career-high 18 points in the second half, and N.C. State beat Pitt, 86-80, on Saturday.

Josh Bell had not hit a walk-off home run since he was a member of the Altoona Curve in 2015. He changed that Friday with a soaring shot for the left field loonies.
