The Pirates’ offense finally woke up behind a career game from Francisco Cervelli, but the Tigers’ 20 hits were too much to overcome in the first game of Wednesday’s twin-bill, with Detroit winning 13-10.

Leonys Martin got the Tigers’ offense started immediatley, smashing a payoff pitch over the fence in center during the first at-bat of the game.

PHILADELPHIA — Aaron Altherr had quite a game for a guy who sat on the bench the first six innings.

PHILADELPHIA — Rhys Hoskins let two fastballs down the middle go for strikes and somehow saw another one.

Odubel Herrera's eighth inning triple served as the difference maker, as the Phillies continue to cool off the Pirates, winning 2-1 at Citizens Bank Park Friday night.

PHILADELPHIA — On yet another chilly April night in their ballpark, the Phillies stayed hot at home.

PHILADELPHIA — Jake Arrieta threw like an old-school ace wearing a retro powder blue Phillies uniform fit for a throwback outing. Arrieta flashed the All-Star form that made Philadelphia covet him in free agency, striking out 10 and tossing one-hit ball over seven innings to lead the Phillies to a 7-0 win over the Pirates on Thursday night.

Rhys Hoskins homered, and Cesar Hernandez had a three-run single to pace the Phillies in their first game back from a 4-2 trip.

The Bucs prevented the sweep with six RBI and five runs from their traditional bench players, beating the Rockies 10-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Manager Clint Hurdle elected to use all four of his normal reserves on the day game after playing the night before, and all four came through with a hit and either a run or an RBI.

The Pirates made a handful of moves before their game against the Colorado Rockies Monday, placing Josh Harrison on the disabled list, optioning Dovydas Neverauskas to AAA and promoting LHP Enny Romero and infielder Max Moroff from Indianapolis.

Josh Harrison was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metacarpal- which is between the wrist and the pinky- in his left hand Monday after being hit by a pitch Sunday by Marlins’ pitcher Jose

MIAMI — When things became testy between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins, Starling Marte kept swinging. And connecting. If the Pirates sought retribution for an inside fastball that sidelined Josh Harrison, Marte provided it by going 5 for 5, including a ninth-inning homer to cap a 7-3 victory Sunday.

Both teams kept their tempers in check even as two Pirates and one Marlin were hit by pitches.
