Rushel Shell is one of the top storylines as the WPIAL playoffs open Friday night. Shell, the WPIAL's leading rusher, and his Hopewell Vikings take on the Franklin Regional Panthers in triple-A action.

The 2010 WPIAL playoffs open this Friday night with 32 games across four classificiations. Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Montour, Aliquippa and Clairton earned the top seeds this year.

The Hill District native and ex-NBA star passed away Sunday at age 58 after a long battle with cancer.

Maurice Lucas, former Schenley High School and NBA star with the Portland Trailblazers, died Sunday at his home in Portland after a long fight with bladder cancer. He was 58.

After losing to Gateway two consecutive years, McKeesport (8-1, 6-0) used an impressive running game to dominate the Gators (5-4, 5-1) 28-14 at Pete Antimarino Field in Monroeville Friday night.

The Tigers won their first conference title since 2007.

The loss for Gateway shattered a 28-game conference winning streak.
