This has been building for three weeks. Seeding, revenge and pride are all on the line for Woodland Hills and Mt. Lebanon. The two Class AAAA titans will square off this Friday for the first time since the Blue Devils defeated the Wolverines in last season’s playoffs.

Both teams enter the contest riding three game win streaks capped by 35 point victories last week. Something has to give.

Playing in a conference that features powerhouses like Central Catholic and Upper St. Clair makes victories extremely hard to come by. When Peters Township and Shaler Area face off on Friday night, both teams are looking to boost their playoff resumes with a victory.

With inexperience on both sides of the ball, a victory might be easier for one team to come by if they can take advantage of mistakes.

Friday night’s game could serve as the springboard to a successful season culminating in a playoff appearance. The contest also could be the straw that breaks the back of a talented, yet underwhelming squad.

It is the same story for both Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward, as each team is 1-2 and searching for a marquee win.

Fox Chapel and Latrobe, young and inexperienced football teams this season, are still looking for a breakout week from any of their players. In two games this season, both teams have not scored more than seven points (25 points combined by both teams in two games).

Both teams have the potential to score points, but their early-season matchups have been less than ideal.

The California Trojans are playing against more than just the Clairton Bears on Friday night. Brady Barbaro’s squad is also challenging a 49-game win streak, three top-flight WPIAL recruits and the PIAA’s reigning champion.

And perhaps Western Pennsylvania’s greatest high school football team of all time.

Oh, and the Trojans will do all of it on the road.

Although the two schools aren’t that far apart, Woodland Hills and McKeesport don’t play each other that often. The last time these two teams met was 2005 when both teams met in the WPIAL championship game at Heinz Field where McKeesport came out victorious.

But this year is different. While both teams are looking to be competitive, lack of experience might hold back both their offense and defense.

Perrenial power Thomas Jefferson visits upstart Elizabeth Forward in a Big Eight Conference game this Friday night at Warrior Stadium in Week 2's U.S. Steel Game of the Week.

Elizabeth Forward played seven conference games last year. The Warriors’ lone win was against McGuffey.

Just saying the Clairton Bears have a significant winning streak doesn’t justify how good the Bears’ varsity football team is. Clairton has absolutely decimated the rest of the WPIAL in the last three seasons, and they don’t look to do anything different in 2012.

Clairton is the proud winner of the last four WPIA

Maybe you have heard of Pete Antimarino. He is the WPIAL football legend who guided Gateway to 236 wins, 17 conference championships and five undefeated seasons. For 32 years he marched the Gators into battle.

For all of Antimarino’s accomplishments, he is not the

After a two-year hiatus from each team’s schedule, one of western Pennsylvania’s most storied football rivalries returns for the 88th time Saturday at 8 p.m., when the Aliquippa Quips will take on the Ambridge Bridgers at Moe Rubenstein Stadium in Ambridge.

Although it's a non-conference game, the importance of the contest lies within the rivalry’s return, as the teams will play for the

Josh Bell had not hit a walk-off home run since he was a member of the Altoona Curve in 2015. He changed that Friday with a soaring shot for the left field loonies.
