We live in a society of victims. No one takes responsibility for anything. Daughter fails a test? Teacher’s fault. Son doesn’t crack the starting line-up? Fire the coach.

There was not much we didn't know about Pitt's Jamie Dixon when this season began. We knew he'd never coached a team to the Final Four. But we also knew he never missed an NCAA Tournament. Nor has he ever lost to a Top 10 team at home.

Congratulations, Gary Bettman. After all the years of criticism, work stoppages and mismanagement, you—and your league—finally get it.

Hindsight, as we all know, is 20-20. Unless you are former Pitt coach Walt Harris, of course, who once famously referred to hindsight as 50-50. Either way, I'm starting this column by acknowledging that I have the benefit of hindsight.

God bless the Cincinnati Bengals. The more everything changes, the more they stay the same. The balance of power in the NFL shifts on a regular basis: the Rams appear to be on the way up, and the Detroit Lions, perennial losers for so long, have become the popular “surprise team” pick among pundits nationally.

The Penguins are just one month away from hitting the ice again and that means the return of Evgeni Malkin, and, hopefully, Sidney Crosby. We say hopefully when it comes to Sid because the Pens' captain hasn't played a hockey game since the first week of January.

Stop it, LeBron. Stop clarifying your statements, stop making sure everyone understands you intend no ill-will, stop apologizing... stop wishing everyone would like you.

When Jim Tressel resigned as Ohio State's head coach late last month, it shocked the Buckeye faithful. It shouldn't have. They should have seen this coming the very day Ohio State hired Tressel after his wildly successful run at Youngstown State.
