Twelve shots. Five wounded. One dead. The departed: Duquesne’s basketball program. After 12 years on life support, the Dukes flat-lined on September 17, 2006. Recovery was the school’s only option. Those roots started nearly a decade earlier.

Connecticut basketball was on the verge of greatness in the mid 1990’s. Ray Allen was an icon. Jim Calhoun had Hall of Fame in his future.

The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee has chosen the city of Pittsburgh as a second and third round site for the 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. Duquesne University will serve as host, and Pittsburgh's CONSOL Energy Center will be the home for the event.

The games will take place March 19 and 21, 2015.

D’Vaun Smith-Rivera scored 19 points as Georgetown survived a late Duquesne rally to defeat the Dukes, 61-55 in the first round of the Progressive Legends Classic at Verizon Center.

Sean Johnson scored a game-high 21 for Duquesne which dropped to 0-2.

Many Duquesne fans will see the 2012-13 season as one lost in the process of rebuilding. First-year head coach Jim Ferry does not see it that way. Ferry had enormous success rebuilding the program at LIU Brooklyn, and now he's applying those skills to Duquesne.

The Dukes return only two starters from last year’s 16-15 team, but Ferry is not concerned with that lack of experience.
