Nineteen-year-old defenseman Simon Despres, the Penguins first-round draft pick in 2009, will be one of 22 players representing Canada in the World Junior Championships.

The Flyers ended the Penguins winning streak at 12 with a 3-2 win in Philly as Scott Hartnell nets the game-winner midway through the third period. Evgeni Malkin scored both Pens goals and Sidney Crosby extended his scoring streak to 19 with two assists.

Dustin Jeffrey scored a goal and an assist in his first NHL action of the season, Sidney Crosby picked up an assist to extend his points streak to 18 games, and Marc-Andre Fleury was exceptional with 34 saves as the Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 for their 12th straight win.

Coaches in Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre are preparing Tangradi, acquired from Anaheim along with Chris Kunitz in a trade that sent Ryan Whitney to the Ducks, to be a top-six forward in the NHL.
