
Young leads Pitt over Penn State

The Panthers held off a second half rally by the Penn State Nittany Lions to hold on for a 81-73 victory Saturday afternoon in the in the Never Forget Tribute Classic in Newark, NJ.
The Panthers (8-2), who led by 20 at halftime and by as much as 24 at 50-26 with 16:50 to play, started having defensive lapses that allowed Penn State to pull within five at 71-66 with 1:50 to play. Sheldon Jeter answered with a 3-pointer which put the game out of reach for Penn State.
Jamel Artis added 16 points and eight rebounds, Cameron Johnson scored 10 and Jeter added eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Panthers.
Mike Watkins had 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Nittany Lions (6-5), while Payton Banks and Tony Carr each scored 13 points apiece and Shep Garner added 12.
The Panthers return to the court next Saturday to start a five game home stand to face Rice at the Pedersen Events Center, while Penn State remains on the road when they travel to Madison Square Garden to face St. John's next Sunday.
