
Davidson downs Duquesne 77-66

Peyton Aldridge scored 22 points and Jack Gibbs added 21 and 10 assists as Davidson pulled away in the second half.
L.G. Gill had 18 points and Derrick Colter scored 17 for the Dukes, who dropped to 10-5 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Davidson remained undefeated at home in moving to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
There were four ties and three lead changes before Davidson went on a 10-0 run to take a 36-26 lead on an Aldridge 3-pointer. Colter scored seven in the final 2:38 to cut the lead to 38-36 at the half.
Davidson scored the first six points of the second half to up their lead to eight.
Duquesne cut it to 44-40, before the Wildcats went on a 9-2 run that started with an Andrew McAuliffe layup and ended with a pair of Gibbs free throws.
The Dukes hit just 3 of their first 21 shots of the half in helping Davidson build its double-digit lead.
DU could get no closer than 11 over the last 10-plus minutes.
Duquesne finished 39.7 percent from the field, while Davidson finished at 42.4 percent. The Dukes went 4-of-24 from the 3-point arc. Davidson, which got four 3-pointers from Jordan Watkins, finished 8-of-29.
The Dukes finished with 14 turnovers, half of which came in the decisive first 10 minutes of the second half.
Eric James posted his second double-double in three games with 12 points and a game high 12 rebounds for Duquesne.
Guard Micah Mason, who missed the Atlantic 10 opener vs. Dayton with an ankle injury, struggled from the field in his first game back, going 0-of-6 from 3-point. The senior guard did hand out a team-high 5 assists and had a team-best 3 steals in 31 minutes.
Duquesne returns to action at George Washington on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised by ASN (WPNT-TV locally).
