Jamel Artis and Mike Young each had 14 points as ‪Pitt‬ cruised to a 92-58 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday at the Petersen Events Center.

Finally, the last time you’ll have to hit the snooze button on the 2015-16 Pitt basketball season.

The annual non-conference cavalcade of creampuffs that come to the Petersen Events Center has finally ended, as No. 25 Pitt (12-1) dismissed its last non-ACC opponent, Maryland Eastern Shore, in a 92-58 thrashing at Petersen Events Center Saturday.

The 1-2 punch of Jamel Artis and Michael Young finished with a combined 28 points (14 each), with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

Struggling early, including surrendering the lead twice, the Panthers ended the break with just a 6-point advantage.

Thanks to another dominating rebounding performance in which Pitt corralled a 41-25 advantage, including 16 on the offensive end, the Panthers were able to cruise in the second half.

Pitt shot 16 of 22 from the field in the final 20 minutes, while holding UMES to just 5 field goals. The Panthers outscored their opponent 53-25 in the second half.

Adding a season-best 44 points from the bench, Pitt saw big minutes from the non-starters including Sheldon Jeter who scored 13-points and pulled down 6 rebounds in 19 minutes of action, while Cam Johnson and Alonzo Nelson-Ododa netted 7 points each.

The Panthers in all saw 11 players score at least one field goal. The surprising goose egg came from starter Rafael Maia, who had no points and just 3 rebounds in 10 minutes of action.

Guard James Robinson finished with 8 points and 4 assists, while Sterling Smith dropped 12 points.

Pitt will host Georgia Tech in its second ACC contest on Wed, Jan. 6 at Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 PM.
