During pre-game, the Steelers and Bengals got into a fight over which side of the 50 yard line was theirs. By the fourth quarter, the drama was gone.
The Steelers pulled off a 33-20 victory—despite the penalties—and ruined the Bengals’ opportunity to clinch the AFC North tile.
The Bengals also lost their quarterback when Andy Dalton broke his thumb making a tackle after Steelers defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt picked off a red zone pass in the first half.
Backup quarterback A.J. McCarron struggled against the Steelers’ defensive pressure. William Gay intercepted one of McCarron’s passes for a 23 yard touchdown and Robert Golden picked off another. McCarron did throw a 66-yard touchdown to A.J. Green to pull the Bengals within a touchdown at 13-7.
McCarron finished 22 of 32 for 280 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions – both of which led to Steelers touchdowns.
Ben Roethlisberger had another terrific afternoon, completing 30 of 39 and 282 yards with one interception. DeAngelo Williams helped Pittsburgh’s cause with 23 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
Steelers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown had seven catches for 87 yards while Heath Miller caught 10 for 66 yards.
Steelers kicker Chris Boswell made field goals from 42, 47, 45 and 31 yards.
Green held the Bengals together with six receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown.
Pittsburgh has now scored 30 points in five straight games, a franchise record. The Steelers host the Denver Broncos next Sunday.
