Colts at Steelers Preview Capsule

Another week, another critical AFC battle with major playoff implications. The Steelers loss to Seattle last week makes Sunday night’s game against Indianapolis a crucial battle in the AFC playoff race.

After blowing several leads in what looked like a winnable game in Seattle one week ago, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has insinuated that there could be personnel changes at cornerback. The Steelers pass defense is the worst in the AFC.

Indianapolis (6-5) at Pittsburgh (6-5)
Dec. 6, 2015
8:30 p.m. on NBC
Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pa.

What’s on the Line: The Steelers are currently on the outside of the AFC playoff picture, one of several teams battling for a Wild Card berth. The Steelers need to find wins against AFC opponents if they hope to secure a playoff spot, and a victory over the Colts could likely put them back into the tournament,

Key Player: Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger: It was the matchup last season at Heinz Field between the Steelers and Colts that Roethlisberger had one of his six-touchdown performances. The surging Colts come to town with three consecutive wins despite owning one of the league’s worst passing defenses.

Of Note: The Steelers hold a 21-6 series lead.

Injury Report: Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) is almost certain to sit out again on Sunday night. Linebacker Jerrell Freeman has also been ruled out with a grade two hamstring strain. Colts coach Chuck Pagano is hopeful that safety Mike Adams, who has missed the past two games with an ankle injury, can return to the field. Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is day to day with a knee injury.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger returned to practice this week after being cleared from the NFL-mandated concussion protocol. Linebackers Ryan Shazier (concussion), Sean Spence (hamstring) and James Harrison (knee) have been limited in practice, along with receiver Martavis Bryant (hip), tight end Heath Miller (ribs), safety Mike Mitchell (knee) and tight end Matt Spaeth (knee).

Josh Bell had not hit a walk-off home run since he was a member of the Altoona Curve in 2015. He changed that Friday with a soaring shot for the left field loonies.
