Frank Mason III finished with 19 points for the Jayhawks, including the last eight points in overtime to cap one of the biggest comebacks in Allen Fieldhouse history.
Kansas captured the outright Big 12 Conference regular season title for the 11th year in a row and snapped a two-game losing streak against WVU.
Junior forward Perry Ellis, the Jayhawks' leading scorer, appeared to injure his knee late in the first half and did not return.
Daxter Miles had 23 points and Jonathan Holton had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 20th ranked Mountaineers, who were without All-Big 12 guard Juwan Staten as well as Gary Browne.
The Mountaineers dominated the Jayhawks most of the game, leading by 18 points in the first half and by 14 at halftime. West Virginia outrebounded Kansas 46-34, including 26-11 in the first half as the Mountaineers had more offensive rebounds (14) than defensive (12) in the opening 20 minutes. The Jayhawks were also 0 for 15 from behind the arc.
Kansas led 4-2 at the 17:52 mark of the opening half and did not lead again until Devonte' Graham made a layup 32 seconds into overtime. Graham’s two free throws with 11.5 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 59-59.
Missed free throws hurt WVU, as the Mountaineers hit just 16 of 28 on the game (57%), including 2 of 6 in the final 4:26. Kansas, meanwhile, made 43 trips to the line, leading to 34 points.
West Virginia also struggled from the field during the Kansas comeback, missing 12 of their final 14 field goal attempts over the final 11 minutes of regulation.
Kansas outscored the undermanned Mountaineers 17-10 in the overtime period.
The Mountaineers will try to bounce back on Saturday in their season finale against Oklahoma State. The game will take place at the Coliseum in Morgantown at 2:00 ET.
