Dominique McKoy led the Dukes (8-6, 1-1) with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ovie Soko and Derrick Colter added 12 points each for DU, which shot .240 in the second half and .358 for the game.
Tyrone Garland (17 points) and Steve Zack (13 points and 11 rebounds) also reached double figures for the Explorers (9-6, 2-0) who hit 10 3-pointers - including four by Duren.
La Salle shot .609 in the second half and .529 for the game.
The Dukes, who had just six second-half field goals, missed five of their first six shots as the Explorers built their 35-30 halftime lead to nine.
La Salle stretched the lead to 12 on a Duren 3-pointer just over four minutes into the half. A steal and layup by Duren - who had 14 in the second half - made it 55-40. Sam Mills and Duren hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the shot clock to up the lead to 65-47 as the Dukes, who came into the game averaging 79 points per game, struggled to score.
The La Salle lead reached 21 on two occasions in the waning minutes.
"I thought it was a tale of two halves for us," said Duquesne coach Jim Ferry. "I thought we played well in the first half, played really hard and got the lead. In the second half, we couldn't throw it in the ocean. Give them credit, I thought they defended really well."
There were four ties and eight lead changes in a first half that ended with La Salle ahead 35-30. Neither team led by more than five in the opening 20 minutes.
"We started pressing a little bit offensively," said Ferry of the Dukes who scored a season-low 26 second-half points. "I think you saw in the second half that it was an experienced team that went to the Sweet 16 with four starters back and a young team trying to really find ourselves right now."
Duquesne heads to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's (10-5, 1-1) in the first of back-to-back road games on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Following the SJU game, the Dukes will travel to Richmond to face VCU in a CBSSN nationally televised game on Saturday, Jan. 18.
