St. John's Tony Harper commits to Panthers

Pitt coach Paul Chryst received a verbal commitment from athlete Tony Harper of St. John's Jesuit high school in Toledo.

The 6-4, 200-pound Harper played linebacker in high school and was being primarily recruited as a defensive back, but he is expected to play on the offensive side of the ball as an H-back at Pitt.

Harper, who also had offers from Toledo, Ohio and Akron, recorded 64 tackles, 5 pass breakups and 2 interceptions as a junior.

He is Pitt's fifth verbal commitment for the 2013 recruiting class.
