Redshirt freshman Anthony Gonzalez suspended for two games

PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh head football coach Todd Graham announced today that redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Gonzalez will serve a two-game suspension for violation of team rules. The disciplinary action stems from an incident that took place in May.

Gonzalez will participate in training camp but, in addition to sitting out the initial two contests, he will also be subject to “internal accountability,” Graham said.

“A championship program has to be built on accountability and discipline, on and off the field,” Graham said. “We know Anthony will learn from this experience and be better for it moving forward.”

Graham also announced redshirt freshman offensive lineman Brandon Sacco has left the team.

Pitt opens training camp Aug. 8 at the UPMC Sports Performance Complex. The Panthers kick off the 2011 season on Sept. 3 against Buffalo at Heinz Field.
