Pirates drop series finale to Cubs

Kosuke Fukudome had three hits, including a go-ahead double, during a perfect day at the plate for the Cubs, who defeated the Pirates 5-3. Rookie second baseman Neil Walker had 3 hits and a homerun for the Pirates.

On the hill: Starter James McDonald was OK, scattering eight hits and three runs through five innings. He struck out six and walked two. Joel Hanrahan pitched a scoreless eighth. Cubs starter and former Pirate Tom Gorzellany left in the third after getting hit with a line drive.
In the box: The Pirates managed only six hits with Neil Walker collecting half of them, including his ninth homerun. Ronny Cedeno had two hits and Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. The Cubs' Kosuke Fukudome was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
On the basepaths: The Cubs stole two bases.
Oh-fer: The Pirates were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Next up: After a day off on Thursday, Pittsburgh welcomes the Nationals to PNC Park this weekend. Zach Duke (6-12, 5.17) faces Hernandez (9-9, 3.49) in Friday's opener.
