BIG TEN PREVIEW

Best Team: Ohio State - The Buckeyes return talent on both sides of the ball from last season’s 11-2 team that won the Rose Bowl. Players have apparently taken the coaching staff’s admonitions to “don’t believe the hype” to heart and are ready to prove themselves again.

Best Offensive Player: John Clay, RB, Wisconsin

The big (248 pounds), punishing running back piled up 1,517 yards rushing and 18 TDs last season and spent the offseason working to be even better.

Best Defensive Player: Greg Jones, LB, Michigan State

Jones, who registered 154 tackles and nine and sacks last season, returns for his senior season as the best linebacker in the conference.

Best Coach: Jim Tressel, Ohio State

With 54 victories in the past five years, Tressel continually churns out conference-leading teams at Ohio State — and this year’s version should be another in that mold.

Terrelle PryorNational Impact: Ohio State

Ohio State has a legitimate chance at the national championship, if Terrelle Pryor avoids mistakes (11 INTs in 2009) and provides top-notch production all season long. Also, Iowa could again earn a BCS bowl berth.

There was not much we didn't know about Pitt's Jamie Dixon when this season began. We knew he'd never coached a team to the Final Four. But we also knew he never missed an NCAA Tournament. Nor has he ever lost to a Top 10 team at home.

Steelers president Art Rooney II doesn’t open his mouth often, unless he has a good reason. That’s rare for an attorney, but appropriate for an executive of an NFL team that has been a model of stability and success for most of the past four decades.

Could it be that Kris Letang is flying under the radar a little bit – right here in Pittsburgh? Let me explain the question. In the Penguins’ dressing room, among the coaches and in the front office, they know exactly what they have in the 24-year-old Montreal native.

The usual suspects dominated National Signing Day, with national champion Alabama leading the way. Urban Meyer's first class at Ohio State was impressive, while Florida landed standout lineman D.J. Humphries of Charlotte.
