Keystone Recruiting
Pennsylvania's Top 10 College Prospects
Class of 2010

By Chris Dokish

1. Sharrif Floyd, George Washington HS (Philadelphia) DT

Brutally strong at 6'3" 310 lbs, Floyd also has great agility, tenacity and technique. After dominating every camp and combine he attended last spring and summer, Floyd followed it up with another dominating season. Has accumulated 40-plus offers but the finalists appear to be Penn State, Ohio State, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Southern Cal. Ohio State and Florida may have a slight lead.

Bottom line- Clearly the best prospect in the state, Floyd has all the skills to be dominant.

2. Corey Brown, Cardinal O'Hara HS (Springfield) ATH

OHIO STATE

An excellent athlete with legitimate 4.4 speed, the 6'0" 170 lb. Brown needs to add muscle if he ends up at RB. Exploded onto the scene as a sophomore, but a sprained knee in the fourth game of his junior season cost him the majority of the year. Missed more time as a senior but showed great versatility and explosiveness. Very good hands and prefers to play WR or WR/RB combo like Percy Harvin. Excellent kick and punt returner.

Bottom line- You can't teach the type of speed and athleticism he possesses, and when the likes of Alabama, Florida, and Miami fly to PA for an athlete, you know he has the potential to be special.

3. Mike Hull, Canon-McMillan HS (Canonsburg) LB

PENN STATE

Not great size at 6'1" 220 lbs but his toughness and strength are exceptional. Very good straight line speed; closes fast and explodes into the ball carrier. Father played at Penn State.

Bottom line- Probably not a superstar, bur certainly can be the next in the long line of Penn State linebacker stars.

4. Dakoya Royer, Manheim Central HS (Manheim) LB/DE

PENN STATE

Came on to the scene as a sophomore when he was named the MVP of a national combine and has since lived up to his potential. A skinny 6'3" 220 lbs, needs to gain size to plays with his hand down at the next level. Excellent pass rusher because of his great range and relentless attitude. Underrated athlete with a YouTube video of himself jumping out of four feet of water in a pool and landing effortlessly on his feet.

Bottom line- Possesses everything it takes to be an excellent football player at the next level, either at DE or LB.

5. Aaron Donald, Penn Hills HS (Pittsburgh) DT

PITT

Every year there is one player who catapults himself into the top 10 with a superb senior season and this Pittsburgh version of the Tasmanian Devil is 2009's example. At 6'0" and 270 pounds his size isn't ideal, but there may not be a quicker interior lineman in the country. So quick and explosive that his ability to take on blockers at the next level is a question since he is so fast off the ball he seldom battles massive linemen straight up. Gateway head coach Terry Smith called Donald, "the best defensive lineman I've seen since I've been coaching." Plays with a nasty attitude that has gotten him in trouble at times. Bottom line- Will make some major programs regret not offering him.

6. Paul Jones, Sto-Rox HS (McKees Rocks) QB

PENN STATE

Solidly built at 6'3" and 225 lbs, Pocket passer with a cannon, but can run if he has to and is extremely mobile in the pocket. Mechanics need work and is still somewhat green, but has good leadership abilities, good character and is a good student. Broke his ankle playing basketball over the summer and missed the beginning of this season, but came back in the third game and produced once again, though he never really exploded as expected.

Bottom line- Excellent developmental prospect.

7. Anthony Gonzalez, Liberty HS (Bethlehem) QB

PITT

A winner that led his team to the Quad A state championship last season and was named Quad A Player of the Year. Followed that up with another great season but was unable to repeat. Lean and athletic 6'1" and 195 pounds but will need to add weight. Doesn't have a cannon for an arm but it appears to be strong enough. Excellent runner outside of the pocket and very mobile inside of it.

Bottom line- If he doesn't pan out at quarterback, he could be an exceptional free safety.

8. Cullen Christian, Penn Hills HS (Pittsburgh) CB

MICHIGAN

Very good size at 6'0" and 180 pounds. Long arms, good speed and excellent athleticism. Vertical jump of over 39". Followed a great summer with a poor senior season in which he often appeared lost. Got beat badly twice in the Indians' season ending lost to Gateway. Bottom line- Height, long arms, and athleticism and can't be taught, but he needs to regain his swagger.

9. Kyle Baublitz, Central York HS (Central York) DE/DT

PENN STATE

Terrorized opponents during his junior year as a 6'4" 255 pound middle linebacker. Will move to the line at the next level where his great size will make him an ideal strong side end. He can also keep adding size to become a defensive tackle. Even has the skills to project at tight end.

Bottom line- Great natural size and toughness should help him become a good college player.

10. Andrew Carswell, Sto-Rox HS (McKees Rocks) WR/TE

PITT

6'4" 200 pounder with great hands. Not a blazer but should be able to get separation at the college level. If not, he has the frame to add weight and eventually become a receiving tight end, while some scouts think he could even be a very good linebacker down the road. Very good athleticism, very strong frame and does a great job of using his big body to his advantage. Runs hard after the catch. Excellent football instincts.

Bottom line- Lack of elite speed is all that prevents him from being amongst the best receiver prospects in the country.
