Cathedral Lawn: Pitt
Junior 2B Chris Sedon earned a spot on the Big East Conference First Team. Sedon-the first Panther to crack the Big East First Team since Jim Negrych in 2006-ranks in the top 10 in batting average (.404); home runs (20); stolen bases (19); and slugging percentage (.788)... Men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon has been chosen as the head coach of 2009 USA Basketball Men's Under-19 National Team. Dixon is coming off a 31-5 season and an Elite 8 appearance which earned him the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award… Shawnice "Pepper" Wilson, sophomore center for the women's basketball team, has been named a finalist for the Women's USA Basketball Under-19 Team. Wilson participated in trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and made it through the 27-girl field to the 14 finalists… The men's track and field team had freshman Ijelu Folarin place sixth in the long jump as they wrapped up competition at the 2009 IC4A Track and Field Championship at Princeton University.

Senior LB Sean Lee-a Pittsburgh native and Upper St. Clair graduate-was elected alongside senior QB Daryll Clark to serve as co-captain for the Nittany Lions next year. The election was held by the players at the conclusion of spring practice… The Lions' women's track and field team backed up their 2008 Big Ten Championship with another one in '09. The back-to-back champions' best individual performance came from sophomore Shavon Greaves who captured the 100-meter and the 200-meter Big Ten championships… The men's volleyball team fell 3-1 to fourth-ranked USC in the NCAA Semifinals in Provo, Utah. This ended an impressive 27-4 season for the Nittany Lions… Softball players Ashley Griffith and Lisa Akamine were both named to the All-Big Ten Team. Griffith, a junior left fielder, was named to the second team, and Akamine, a freshman utility infielder, was named to the third team.

The Mountaineers' baseball team boasted a school-record nine selections to this year's All-Big East Teams. Four players were named to the third team, 2B Vince Belnome was the only Mountaineer selected to the second team and SS Jedd Gyorko, OF Justin Parks, C Tobias Streich and pitcher Jarryd Summers were all named to the first team… After winning its first National Title since 1998, the WVU rifle team was ranked first overall in the final Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll… The men's soccer team experienced a first this spring when its recruiting class was ranked in the Top 15 by Soccer America. This marks the third-straight year that coach Marlon LeBlanc and his staff have had nationally ranked recruiting classes… The women's track and field team tied a program-best third finish at this year's ECAC Championships at Princeton University. Chelsea Carrier, a sophomore from Buckhannon, W.Va., won the 100-meter hurdle with a personal-best time of 13.30.

Senior Samantha Howard of Moon Township, Pa., recorded a career-best time of 16:47.98 in the women's 5000m at the ECAC, qualifying her for the NCAA Outdoor East Regional Track and Field Championship… Men's basketball coach Ron Everhart signed recruits Sean Johnson and Andre Marhold to National Letters of Intent. Johnson averaged 22.4ppg for Christ the King, a New York City High School Athletic Association team, and was named first team Class AA all-state and the MVP of his league. Marhold, originally from Pittsburgh, averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior for North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A North Mecklenburg… Duquesne's men's and women's tennis teams had three players named to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men All-Conference Second Teams. Junior Mark Maciuch, Jeremy McClelland and Pittsburgh-native Zach Skorupka earned the nod for the men's team, and senior Rebecca Poole, junior Rachel McGowan and sophomore Zena Williams earned a spot on the women's team.
