Q: Does the system Pitt plays stifle shooters? - Gerrit Veeder, Connecticut
ESPN's
Jay Bilas:
"No, Pitt's style of play is good for shooters. [Opponents] have to clamp down inside on interior scorers. Right now, Pitt's opponents are trying to make them shoot jump shots and keep them out of the lane and make them go over the top. For a shooter, that's perfect.
"Their perimeter players have done a better job shooting it. Ashton Gibbs is a shooter, and he's always been known as one, and he's shot the ball very well this season. I don't know why people are looking for some sort of reason to pin this thing on: 'Hey we haven't gotten past the Sweet 16, there must be something horribly wrong with the foundation of the program.' It's kind of ridiculous. It's almost like a couple of years ago when Aaron Gray was coming out and people were saying that Pitt hasn't had a first round draft pick since Vonteego Cummings. Is that a problem?
"Well what would you rather have - a few first round draft picks, or all those banners up in the Pete?"
