2009 PA Top 10
By Chris Dokish
This year's in-state class does not quite match-up overall with last year's, or a 2010 class that looks highly promising at this early stage. The top of the '09 class, however, is full of excellent players.
1.
Dorian Bell, LB, Gateway (Monroeville)
- 6'0" 230-pounds and his athleticism and instincts are off the
charts. National top 20 prospect. Committed to OHIO STATE.
2. Eric Shrive, LT, West Scranton (Scranton) - Giant 6'7" 300 pounder has the frame to get even bigger. Good feet and strength. Has all the makings of a future star. Committed to PENN STATE.
3. Tom Savage, QB, Cardinal O'Hara (Springfield) - Philly area QB with 6'4" 220 pound size and a cannon for an arm. Good mobility in the pocket and a sneaky good athlete. Committed to RUTGERS.
4. Je'Ron Stokes, WR, Northeast (Philadelphia) - The full package with 6'1" 180 pound size, blazing speed, good hands and elite athleticism. Committed to TENNESSEE.
5. Corey Brown, ATH, Gateway (Monroeville) - Not a speed demon, but very quick and athletic, with superb instincts. Probably will play CB but could be an excellent WR too. Committed to OHIO STATE.
6. Dan Mason, LB, Penn Hills (Pittsburgh) - His 6'0" 220 size may prevent him from getting more offers, but schools may regret that. Has a ripped physique to go with top notch speed and athleticism. Could be a killer MLB and that's where he's projected.
7. Todd Thomas, ATH, Beaver Falls (Beaver Falls) - First made waves as a great basketball player, but football is his future thanks to his 6'2" 205 pound frame and great athleticism. Projects equally well at WR or S.
8. Tyrone Ezell, DL, Steel Valley (Munhall) - Moved from Chicago a few years ago. With a chiseled 6'4" 255 pound body, good athleticism and a non-stop motor, he has transformed himself into a top DL prospect.
9. E.J. Banks, ATH, Montour (McKees Rocks) - Star QB who could move to DB in college. At 5'11" and 181 pounds, he isn't big, but has great athleticism and good speed.
10. Brock DeCicco, TE, Thomas Jefferson (Clairton) - Athletic TE that needs to add weight to his 6'5" 220 pound body, but he all of the other tools needed to be a great one. Brother Dom, will be a starting sophomore safety for Pitt this season.
