Facing Off
Trots vs. Roberts

Gary Roberts had an immediate impact when he joined the Penguins during the stretch run last season, scoring 7 goals and 13 points in his 19 games, and providing a veteran leader and a physical presence. Roberts was also one of the few Penguins to score consistently in the postseason with 2 goals and 2 assists in their brief series against Ottawa. His leadership, winning resume and physical play calls to mind NHL Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier's tenure with the Penguins in the early 1990s. Trottier joined the Pens before the 1990-91 season and was an essential part of the teams' two Stanley Cups that year and the following season. Although Trottier was an elite scorer during his years in New York, he enthusiastically embraced his role as third-line center and locker room leader.
