West Virginia 2002 Oral Commitments

The following is a summary of West Virginia University 2002 oral commitments obtained by the Pittsburgh Sports Report through the publication date of its February 2002 issue. The final commitment list will be available at the Pittsburgh Sports Report web site (www.pghsports.com) following National Letter of Intent Day Feb. 5, 2002.

o   Rayshawn Boldin, WR, Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy HS, 6-5, 195. . . Lanky and with 4.6 speed in the 40, Boldin is a big target with good hands. Wasn't heavily recruited.

o   Carl Farrell, S, Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown HS, 6-0, 187. . . Has outstanding quickness and could end up at cornerback. Versatile player. Runs the 40 in 4.5.

o   Jason Hardee, TE, San Mateo (Cal.) Junior College, 6-4, 270. . . Solid receiver but better known for his blocking ability. Runs the 40 in 4.7 which is outstanding for a big man.

o   Jeremy Hines, OL, Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward HS, 6-3, 285. . . Hails from Cleveland football power St. Edward. Excellent run blocker. Has been timed at 5.3 in the 40.

o   Akeem Jackson, S, Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth HS, 6-0, 190. . . Has 4.46 speed in the 40. Projected as a strong safety but could play outside linebacker. Outstanding in pass coverage.

o   Mike Lorello, S, Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Killbourne HS, 6-0, 195. . . A big hitter, he has been timed at 4.53 in the 40. Probably will be a strong safety but could play outside linebacker.

o   Kevin McLee, LB, Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown HS, 6-1, 230. . . Also played running back and rushed for 1,637 yards on 247 carries. Big hitter as a linebacker. Runs the 40 in 4.55.

o   Dwayne Mundle, S, Scarborough, Ont./Central Technical HS, 6-2, 200. . . Played high school ball in Canada. Has outstanding 4.5 speed. Another safety who could end up at linebacker.

o   Dan Mozes, OL, Washington, Pa./Washington HS, 6-3, 285. . . Was an outstanding two-way lineman for Washington. Member of Associated Press Small School First Team Offense. Powerful run blocker. Led state champion Little Prexies in tackles and recorded 10 sacks. Runs the 40 in 4.98.

o   Tywaan Napper, S, Clairton, Pa./Clairton HS, 5-11, 185. . . Runs the 40 in 4.45 and could move to cornerback. Also played running back in high school. Has outstanding quickness.

o   Taylor Ownbey, LB, Cumming, Ga.,/South Forsyth HS, 6-2, 225. . . Big and strong, when he hits an opponent they go backward. Runs the 40 in 4.7. Probably an inside linebacker.

o   J.T. Perry, WR, Allen, Tex/Allen HS, 6-2, 200. . . Another big, tall target. Has great hands and isn't afraid to run over the middle of the field. Has been timed at 4.5 in the 40.

o   Erick Phillips, RB, Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS, 5-11, 200. . . Projected as a tailback. He has outstanding speed and has been clocked at 4.4 in the 40. Also a solid receiver.

o   John Scott, RB, Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville HS, 6-0, 185. . . Another running back with excellent speed, Scott has also run the 40 in 4.4. Hits the hole in a hurry.

o   Adam Serena, TE, McKeesport, Pa./South Allegheny HS, 6-3, 225. . . Better known for his blocking ability, he does have good hands and runs the 40 in 4.7. Also played defensive end and could end up on that side of the ball.

o   Jeremy Sheffey, DE, Ashland, Ky./Boyd County HS, 6-3, 235. . .Has running back speed and has been times at 4.7 in the 40. Could develop into a rush end.

o   Andre Sumpter, WR, Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood HS, 6-0, 170. . . From the football rich state of Florida, Sumpter has run the 40 in 4.5 seconds. Has great leaping ability.

o   Jamil Tyson, CB, Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson HS, 6-1, 175. . . Is projected as a cornerback but may play safety or linebacker. Runs the 40 in 4.79. Sure tackler.

o   Leandre Washington, LB, Mesa (Az.) Community College, 6-0, 215. . . Has outstanding speed, running the 40 in 4.5. Will be looked at as an outside linebacker.

o   Craig Wilson, DE, River Ridge, La./John Curtis Christian HS, 6-1, 275. . . Runs the 40 in 4.8 seconds. Could end up playing a defensive tackle. Big hitter.
